People

  • Gu Qiming: "顾" (gù) is a surname, which means "to look after" or "to take care of."

    "启明" (qǐmíng) is the given name. "启" means "to start" or "to initiate," and "明" means "bright" or "clear."

  • Lin Xing: "林" (lín) means "forest" or "woods.""星" (xīng) means "star."

Terms:

  • Catty: unit of weight traditionally used in East Asia, particularly in China. It's equivalent to approximately 600 grams or 1.33 pounds.

  • Jin: It's equivalent to approximately 500 grams or 1.102 pounds

  • Liang: One liang is equivalent to approximately 50 grams or 1.7637 ounces
