AFTCKCTCKATD - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Feng Yimo Even Lost The Person He Was Chasing After.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!” While most everyone else was still struggling to make sense of the situation, gunshots followed in quick succession.
The beastly roars accompanied by gunfire—it was all too familiar.
Before Ji Yanqing could start giving orders, everyone already broke into a familiar series of actions.
Lan Zi grabbed her backpack and dashed up the rooftop to see what was going on, while the others took advantage of the opportunity to pack the medicine, guns, and food.
Ji Yanqing tied the axe to his back with a rope and woke Ji Le up at the same time. Ji An had already woken up, but Ji Le had been sleeping the entire time. When he woke up, he was unusually exhausted.
“The monster is still at the foot of the mountain, some people stayed there and some have already entered the village, those people have guns.” Lan Zi came down from upstairs.
There was a distance between the foot of the mountain and the village, but that distance was far from enough. Once they were discovered by that monster, they would definitely die.
It was pure luck that they had survived their previous encounter with Nuo Yun. For some unknown reason, the zombified Qian Guoyun and Kang Haoyi had prioritized attacking her, and none of them believed they would be so lucky a second time.
They were already in such a mess facing that recently awakened witch. But the beast at the foot of the mountain was a true Corpse King.
“Let’s go!” After ascertaining that everyone had packed up anything they could take with them, Ji Yanqing led the way downstairs.
Downstairs, out the door, and just around the corner, several people collided head-on with a few figures rushing forwards.
Ji Yanqing and the others were so startled that they raised their guns in reflex.
“Humans?” The group opposite them was astonished. With the virus outbreak and the pandemonium of the zombies, the chances of encountering living people around the corner were comparable to winning the lottery.
Ji Yanqing was the first to regain his senses. He took the lead and ran out of the village, saying, “This way.”

Xia Shen Shu and the others did not hesitate and followed immediately.
The remaining men all looked their leader, who frowned and was a bit unhappy about Ji Yanqing’s willful actions, but he still chose to follow.
Ji Yanqing chose to take the highway instead of the mountain path.
The village was on the right side of the road between the previous city and the next urban area. The mountain range was further to the right and in front. The beast was currently at the foot of the mountains. If they didn’t want to run back to the previous city and the mountains where the reservoir was, then their only choice was to get closer to the highway.
Running along the dirt road, they dashed through the village and past the farmlands outside. They continued to sprint for almost an hour until everyone was panting like cows and drenched in sweat. It was then that Ji Yanqing, who was leading at the front, finally stopped.
The two cities were not separated by imposing mountains, and from afar all that could be seen was rough, barren, grass-covered hills. Ji Yanqing chose the closest one, about ten meters tall, then led the group to hide behind it.
Seeing this, the others hurriedly followed suit.
“Hide properly, everyone!” All of the people who had been running at full speed fell to the ground, panting in exhaustion.
Ji Yanqing looked back from the edge of the hill and confirmed he could no longer see the beast. He turned around to observe the group he had met in the village earlier.
There were fifteen or sixteen of them, all men, with rugged, muscular builds.
They were well-organized. They wore the same style of windbreakers and carried identical backpacks, and they all held guns in their hands.
Leading this team was a man with an injured right arm. He was in his thirties, with a buzz cut, and had wounds on his forehead and neck. His face was fierce; before the virus outbreak, he must have been a gangster.
As Ji Yanqing was assessing them, the people opposite were also sizing up Ji Yanqing and his companions.
“How did you end up there?” The leading man asked.
“We’d just come out from the city behind, so we went that way to find food.” Xia Shen Shu didn’t mention the awakened zombie. “And you guys, what happened?”
“Xue Gang, you can call me Brother Xue. I had a survival team in the city ahead, but yesterday we suddenly encountered a Corpse King attack, so we fled all the way back here.” While Xue Gang was speaking, his gaze swept across everyone’s faces one by one. Upon seeing Ji An and Ji Le hiding behind Ji Yanqing, his expression became strange. “Who are they?”
Ji Yanqing lightly glanced at Ji An and Ji Le, who had always been hiding behind him ever since Xue Gang came. For some reason, they seemed to be very afraid of Xue Gang. “My sons.”
Xue Gang was taken aback.
Ji An and Ji Le were also clearly taken aback. A moment ago, they were as pale as paper from fear, but now they were staring at Ji Yanqing in a daze.
“You two don’t look similar.” Xue Gang let out a sigh; for a moment, he thought that they looked familiar. He even thought that they were…
“En.” Ji Yanqing had no intention of explaining.
Xia Shen Shu and the others glanced at Ji Yanqing, but neither showed any sign of revealing the truth.
“Is there water?” asked someone beside Xue Gang.
Xia Shen Shu looked at Ji Yanqing. After Ji Yanqing lightly nodded, he said, “We need bullets.”
In such circumstances, any resources were precious, water and food especially.
The man looked towards Xue Gang, asking for his opinion.
They fled all the way, and all their food and water had been exhausted since yesterday evening. Now their stomachs were growling, and they were faint with hunger.
They could endure not eating for a while, but not drinking was impossible. Their throats were parched and their lips had long since cracked open.

Xue Gang nodded.
Xia Shen Shu glanced at Lan Zi, who retrieved a bottle of water from her pack and handed it over. The man nodded, tossing ten bullets to Xia Shen Shu from the opposite end.
Ammunition was getting scarce and Xia Shen Shu felt somewhat dissatisfied. In this kind of environment, water was far more valuable than bullets.
The water finally arrived in the hands of the group opposite. The first cup was handed to Xue Gang, who opened it and gulped down a third of it before passing it to the person behind him.
The four people behind him stepped forward to drink a third of it and the last third was for the remaining ten people.
Ji Yanqing’s eyebrows furrowed slightly beneath his safety glasses.
“You just said you have a survival squad, so how many people are in your squad?” Baldy asked.
“More than four hundred. If we follow the freeway, we should be able to reach the city before nightfall. Let’s go there. When we were attacked, the rest of the team was searching for supplies nearby, so if we go back now, we should be able to meet up with them in time,” Xue Gang said.
“Over four hundred? Can we join you?” asked Baldy with gleaming eyes.
The more people there were, the safer it was. Although there were also risks that came with it, at least it was better than a few people working alone.
Xue Gang passed his gaze over the firearms in the hands of Ji Yanqing and his men. “You’re welcome to.”
“In that case, we should...” The bald man was about to speak, when something suddenly crossed his mind. He looked towards Ji Yanqing. After all, Ji Yanqing was the captain of their little squad.
Xue Gang raised his eyebrows and also looked at Ji Yanqing.
Ji Yanqing didn’t seem old, with fair skin and fluffy, soft hair. Despite his face being hidden behind his goggles, the jawline, bridge of his nose, and lips peeking out still held people’s gazes captive. In addition, he was also traveling with two children, so he didn’t look like the leader of their group no matter how one looked at it.
Ji Yanqing did not continue this topic but looked towards the direction of the highway. “Let’s go. We must get as far away as possible before nightfall.”
Ji Yanqing did not object to going to the city. They had nowhere else to go now, so going to the city was the best choice.
Upon hearing this, the bald man was taken aback and became a bit agitated.
Xue Gang’s eyes drooped, and he said nothing. He stood up.
Seeing this, the others stood up one after another.

Just as everyone pulled themselves together and prepared to continue their journey, the bestial roar suddenly came from behind them, and everyone turned their heads to look, the sound came from the village.
“RooAAArr!”
The colossal black figure threw its head back and let out a long howl, attempting to summon Feng Yimo.
It had sniffed out Feng Yimo’s aura in the village. It couldn’t tell for certain whether the aura belonged to the individual Feng Yimo was after or belonged to Feng Yimo himself, after all, that was the formidable Feng Yimo.
It was supposed to be with Feng Yimo, but after spending three days going around in circles near the previous city, seeing the city for the fifth time, it suspected that Feng Yimo had really been cursed by that city. Biting the bullet, it suggested leading the way itself.
Feng Yimo agreed very readily.
Able to lead the way, it tightened its muscles and dashed straight towards the next city. It swiftly ran into the city in one go.
When they entered the city, he had just let out a sigh of relief, but when he turned his head, he discovered that the Corpse King was gone.
While following it, Feng Yimo ended up losing sight of the beast entirely.
In the wilderness, Ji Yanqing took a deep breath and, leading the way from the hill, said, “Let’s go.”
He had barely taken two steps when two small figures suddenly appeared beside him, one on the left and one on the right.

The two little ones gazed up at him, their ears and cheeks that were originally pristine now flushed with a rosy hue, their dark eyes moistened as well. They resembled two nervous kittens, trembling and unsure.
Just as Ji Yanqing was about to ask, Ji An, mustering all his courage, spoke in a soft, milky voice, “Daddy.”
Seeing this, Ji Le also hurriedly called out softly and tenderly, “Daddy.”
Both little ones spoke with evident unease and nervousness, their eyes framed by lashes that fluttered anxiously, just after Ji Yanqing gently revealed that they were his sons.
Ji Yanqing was momentarily stunned. The next moment, under his protective goggles, his usually cold brows and eyes softened. He gently patted the heads of the two little ones, murmuring, “En.”
Not only were they not scolded, but their heads were also gently stroked. Ji An and Ji Le’s faces, already flushed, instantly puffed up in a deep red, and along with their faces, their eyes welled up with redness too.
They struggled to purse their lips tightly, striving their hardest not to cry.
They knew well, children with fathers were always protected and never allowed to be bullied. Only those without fathers would continually face beatings and torment.
Before, they had no father; now, they have one.
Ji An's voice rang out, filled with determination, "I'll be the one to protect us from now on."
As his words fell, he didn’t wait for Ji Yanqing’s reaction before he ran off.
Upon seeing this, Ji Le panicked, fearing he was falling behind. He hurriedly ran to Ji Yanqing’s side with a flurry of thumping footsteps and told Ji Yanqing, “I will protect us too!”

Having said that, Ji Le also hurriedly made his escape.
Ji Yanqing trailed behind at a leisurely pace, observing the two little ones with their ears flushed red and the surreptitious dabbing at the corners of their eyes. His heart felt a mix of sourness and warmth.
Despite their diminutive size, with fingers so slender, they were already thinking about protecting him, their earnestness palpable.
Ji Yanqing took a deep breath, his gaze fixed forward as he remained vigilant of his surroundings. Looking into the distance, he unexpectedly saw a figure in the wilderness.
Ji Yanqing’s footsteps halted lightly.
The figure was a thousand li away from them, running in the direction away from the village at an astonishing speed, vanishing into the distance in the blink of an eye.
Ji Yanqing turned his head to look back at the village from which beastly roars had once again erupted. Could it be that the person fleeing had also done so upon hearing the beast’s roars?
